  My view is the "scientific method" had become a bit of a gold standard which some people want to apply to everything; from this perspective there are universal facts "out there" to be discovered. However your methods shape the knowledge you produce. Empirical, experimental methods work well for the natural sciences they leave room for huge oversights and unacknowledged assumptions when it comes to areas like psychology and philosophy.

  Edited to add: I believe I am sufficiently qualified to venture an informed opinion on this topic.

  i don't really engage in doctrinal discussions about jw's anymore.

  they seem to say some pretty crazy stuff.

  but i have read some threads discussing doctrinal changes and how watchtower is really out of ideas and money at the same time.

  Maybe they won't declare the great tribulation but that the ark door is shut. The dubs would get all fired up about giving the judgement message without the GB having to shoot the GT load. The risk of them ending up with even less credibility if they called the great tribulation would be too much.

  Witness Carts - A Vehicle for Significant Decline

  i was stalking to a jw today about her recent experience on the carts and with being a jw generally.

  until this conversation i considered the carts as just an ineffective preaching method and a harmless waste of time.

  but now i wonder if the effect of the carts might be to produce noticeable decline in jw numbers.

  I was in the city centre last week and walked past about 4 carts. I was approached by campaigners fur the EU referendum twice, people who are passionate about their message and wanted to engage people and make a difference. Not so the JWs.

  i've never felt comfortable using the bible to try to calculate dates (1914).

  I think we've all been there. It's like grief, you'll go through anger and bargaining too. But eventually with time and effort come acceptance. You have clearly been doing your research but don't forget to do some things to help you psychologically too. If you haven't yet read Steve Hassan's books it would be a good idea to do so before having further conversations with your wife about it all.

  the wts has gone off the rails and is "unrepentantly" hateful.

  they are blatantly requiring mothers and fathers to disown/hate their own children that they have loved and cared for since birth simply because they don't comply with the orgs demands.

  how is this love?

  ...is an epic triumph is emotional manipulation.

  bringing together all of the stories they told thus far and placing them int he "new world" complete with the little boy who was killed in a car accident coming back from the dead.. i have a good friend who is stuck in with family and plays the role.

  he said everyone was crying, and the people next to him rated the videos by how many tissues they needed to dry their eyes.

  All of the videos are an exercise in emotional modelling. You will feel devastated when your child leaves "the truth". You will feel devastated when your spouse leaves "the truth". You will feel that the organisation is your only hope for survival when times are tough. You will feel euphoric in the new world.

  The trouble is that the first 3 scenarios are a given. The last one will never happen. Makes for a life of sorrow and disappointment for the average JW. Shame on you governing body.

  i want to spare you a long post about my background.

  because this topic is about something else.a small information is that i knew ttatt before i got married.

  but then i somehow pushed it back for quite some time because i didnt want to change my life and it was convenient to instantly meet new people when you move into a new city.couple of years into my marriage and seeing all the changes in the jw my thirst for ttatt resurfaced.

  I've seen this happen a couple of times before here. There was a nice guy who got his wife out only for her to go off the rails and leave him. But who knows whether they would have stayed together or been happy if they stayed witnesses? I recall be eventually met someone else and was happy. It's going to bug me now that I can't remember his name!

  I love New York. My personal favourites are Central Park, the Staten Island ferry, walking the Brookly bridge, Grand central and the empire state/chrysler buildings. And the various things you stumble upon in the subways from people playing the sax to full dance troupes.
